Facts about MoTs:
Did you know that you can have your test done within 30 days of the expiry date? If the car passes, your MoT is valid for up to 13 months.
If it fails, you have longer to arrange the repairs!
Brakes
There are many brake items to be checked at the MoT, e.g. leakage of air from the brake pipes, condition of brake hoses and system efficiency.
However, we are not allowed to dismantle any components at the time of the test. It is therefore possible for discs and pads to be seriously worn, or for other defects to be present which cannot be seen by the tester.
It is very important to realise, therefore, that the braking system could pass the MoT test and yet still be in a dangerous condition.
The solution is to have your brakes fully inspected at appropriate times depending on the mileage covered by the vehicle.

Proposed Government changes to the MoT Scheme
The Government has proposed major changes to the MoT Scheme. They suggest that a car has its first MoT at 4 years old, a year older than at present, and is tested every two years after that instead of annually.
Our experience shows that many cars fail their first MoT. For some owners, the annual 'service and mot charge' is the only time they have anything done to their car each year.
We think the Government is making this proposal to make them look more attractive in the face of some more unpopular publicity.
